Therapy at Home - Taking Charge
Exploring Why Home-Based Intervention work and how as a parent you can take charge !
I am often questioned as to “How can I do therapies at home with my child?” I am not a therapist. I always say “You are a Mom!!! And that’s what matters. God has gifted you an unsolved piece of puzzle…have patience try to understand how the mind of your child works….Observe…..Try listening to the unknown, look deeply and make notes but most importantly take CHARGE of your child! Be open to learn from your therapist, they are there to guide you, ask the right questions, but most importantly work with your child at home.
Therapy sessions help us understand the needs of our child better, they guide us with the direction in which we should steer our child’s development but let me tell you its only part of the whole story😊…A story that you create at your home with your child.
Home Intervention is not just about replicating sessions at home but also doing activities and things that are above and beyond the ambit of traditional therapy. Example, engaging your child with simple household chores, gardening with them or just roughhousing play with them.
Let me tell assure you…...The real magic happens at home!
Therapies are all about priming the brain to respond in a particular manner. That does not happen in a session of 45 mins. It has to be repeated in a structured and patterned way for the brain to adapt. So the key is, “Repetition, Structure, Pattern and Consistency.”
